individual strengths. Oil is Randall's medium of choice, but he is open to

John Budicin
May 14-17, 2012
“Plein Air - Strong, Beautiful & True”
Painting outdoors is challenging. Learning what to select and what to omit to make a strong design and statement is the goal. You are not obligated to paint everything you see.
The emphasis will be to simplify and organize shapes. The beauty of a painting is often
in its simplicity.

“What is important to me, as a teacher, is to share whatever knowledge I have with my students. I have no secrets about the way I paint, my philosophy, or my approach. I want to give each student all I can through personal attention, direction, and group discussions. There are no shortcuts in reaching our goals; just hard work and determination.”

This class is suitable for beginning to professional oil painters. We will paint on location at all times. John Budicin was born in Rovigno, Italy. He was 12 years old when his family settled in Southern California. After working as a commercial artist for 19 years, John finally decided to make his true passion, art, his lifetime profession. Working primarily on location, he finds his inspirations directly from life.

With many awards and honors, John’s work has been in museum exhibitions and featured in many art magazines, such as, Cowboys and Indians, Art of the West, Southwest Art, Pasadena Magazine, California Art Club Newsletter, and Art Business News. Several of his paintings were selected and published in 200 Great Painting Ideas for Artist, and have been reproduced in several other art books.
Tuition $600.

Painting with the Palette Knife and Hottest Marketing Tips
Four Day Palette Knife Painting (in the studio and plein air)
Four days and Leslie promises you will love painting with a palette knife!
Our first day starts off with a few exercises pertaining to color mixing, painting values and some basic palette knife exercises. Then we’ll start a unique paint-along demo in which Leslie demonstrates the basic approach to completing a painting with a palette knife.  This demo helps students understand the basics and guides them to success using a simple step by step approach.  And ... you will love your completed painting ...
On the second day we will all paint together while participating in a paint-along painting demo.
On Day Three we will head outside and paint plein air. You can plan on painting two small paintings - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The day will be spent painting your own palette knife paintings as Leslie provides one on one personalized instruction at your easel.
On Day Four we will head back to the classroom and start out with another painting. That afternoon we will all participate in a group painting exercise that will cement all that you have learned during the week.
Plus as a group we will focus on “motivation” - we will inspire, elevate and help each other discover the joy of painting. Plus we will talk about marketing ... suggestions as to how you can sell more art on-line via facebook, your blog, website, newsletters, etc.
Cost is $450.00. Location: Orange County, CA

Carol Marine
February 4-8, 2013
Painting small and often is a powerful way to rapidly improve your skills!
There is a fast growing group of people, called daily painters, who do small paintings every day, post photographs of their paintings on a blog, and then sell them through eBay, with a usual starting price of $100. In this way, many artists are finding they can grow quickly in skill and finally make a living with their art, after struggling for years in galleries and at art fairs. Carol has had 5+ years of experience daily painting and teaches workshops around the US and Canada.
We will spend most of our time on the basic principles of design – the rules of composition, value, color, and shape – and how to apply them to small still lives. We will then experiment with color relationships using an alternative to the traditional color wheel, explore color mixing, and how each color “leans” towards others. We will push our compositions to avoid “floating” objects and learn the one, simple rule to avoid a boring still life. There will be daily demos, handouts and one-on-one critiques.
Finally, we will learn how to set up a blog, the in’s and out’s of ebay, shipping and marketing your work, etc. There will be reference material on this to take home. Beginner or professional welcome. Location: Orange County, CA; Tuition: $600.
